In the Gutter

"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars" - Oscar Wilde.

My children knew their Great Grandmother, Gigi.

They sleep in the winter under blankets she crochetted.

Those blankets are her legacy, as are her great grandchildren.

They love those blankets and when they talk about them and her I wonder what my legacy will be.

I don't crochet.

But I think that like all parents I struggle to keep my kids out of the gutter, when really I should be introducing them to the stars.

But its usually too cold and too late, so I subsitute stars for clouds, introduce them to the air and hope they will discover the stars for themselves.

Its going to take hours and hours.

But then you have built it.
